Tenant Spotlight: Curtis Electrolysis

The doors of Curtis Electrolysis opened in 1978 more as Plan B as a business plan rather than Plan A. I had just finished four years of college, two years of graduate school, and completed an M.S.Ed. in Student Personnel and Counseling in Higher Education and was unable to find a job! A friend had told me about the field of electrolysis (which is permanent hair removal) and she was doing quite well financially in this field, so I thought, “what the heck? I’ll give it a try!“ The training program was only four weeks long, so the new plan was to do it for a year until I could get back into my original profession.

What types of services does your business offer?

Curtis Electrolysis specializes in permanent hair removal for both men and women. Our clients’ first visit is free and includes a consultation, a full 15-minute treatment, and an evaluation at no cost or obligation. You can read a detailed list of services here.

Why did you choose an Anderson Office?

I chose to open at 125 Wolf in a tiny two room interior suite with no windows. Not only was it a great location, but the landlord agreed to rent to me! I had absolutely no business experience and no financial credibility and yet Bill Anderson agreed to rent to me!

How have you expanded or grown your business?

By the end of the first six months in my Anderson Group office I was “in the black“ and by the end of the first year, I realized I loved this profession. Three years later, I was moving into a larger corner office suite, and expanding to a two treatment room office with three additional staff members. Three years ago our son, Cody, decided to go into this field (after four years of practicing phlebotomy) and found, like me, that this is a significantly more rewarding profession.

Now, 46 years later, I am still a tenant at 125 Wolf Road and my “claim to fame” is that I am the longest standing tenant in the building. I am so grateful that Bill Anderson, and now the second generation of The Anderson Group, has put up with me for all these years! They have been wonderful landlords, and I will be eternally grateful to them for taking a chance on the likes of me!
